Crested Butte is the untamed destination at the end of the road, located in southwest Colorado, within the Gunnison National Forest and the Elk Mountain Range of the Colorado Rocky Mountains. The resort lies in the town of Mt. Crested Butte, three miles from the town of Crested Butte. The area was originally settled in the 1880s as a mining supply camp and still reflects this era in its architecture.
Best Known For
The town boasts one of Colorado's largest National Historic Districts, with charm impossible to convey in words. In 1990, the Colorado Legislature designated Crested Butte as the official “Wildflower Capital of Colorado.” In addition, the area was one of the birthplaces of mountain biking, along with Marin County, California, where old Schwinn bikes were being transformed into bikes with wider tires for more rugged terrain and the pot holes that lined Elk Avenue (the town’s main street). Crested Butte was certified as a Creative District in the summer of 2016, joining 17 other districts in the state of Colorado. The Creative District Certification process focuses on defining specific geographic areas that can attract artists and creative entrepreneurs to a community, infuse new energy and innovation and enhance economic and civic capital. Crested Butte is well known for its spectacular views and wide open spaces, with federally owned public land comprising nearly 80 percent of Gunnison County.

Crested Butte Mountain Bike Park
Crested Butte Mountain Bike Park was established at Crested Butte Mountain Resort in 2009. Since the beginning, it has been designed to meet the needs of all riders; from beginners on two wheels to gravity experts. The Bike Park has a diverse network of trails that now contains over 30 miles of singletrack on the resort; both lift served downhill trails and cross country rides that connect to some of the legendary rides in and around Crested Butte. The great riding at the resort compliments 750 miles of mountain biking that the Gunnison Valley has to offer.

Adaptive Sports Center
The Adaptive Sports Center (ASC) of Crested Butte provides year-round outdoor recreation activities for people with disabilities and their families, including one of the only downhill mountain biking programs in the world for people with disabilities. ASC instructors guide and assist participants down the mountain. Choose to explore wide and easy trails or head out on the singletrack and learn to negotiate more challenging terrain including rock piles and logjams.
This high adventure activity focuses on increasing strength and self-confidence, as well as establishing good adaptive biking techniques. ASC also has an extensive summer program with activities including boating, cycling, rock climbing and horseback riding. For more information about ASC, visit www.adaptivesports.org.

No matter where you’re coming from, traveling to Crested Butte by car is a scenic and easy way to go. We have no doubt that you’ll be tempted to stop and take photos along the way: the views are breathtaking. Drive time from Denver is approximately 4 hours, and other cities within driving distance include:
Colorado Springs, CO: 4 hours
Dallas, TX: 14 hours
Oklahoma City, OK: 12 hours
Topeka, KS: 13 hours
Kansas City, MO: 16 hours
Easy Access from Gunnison, Montrose Airports
Travelers have the option to fly direct to Gunnison-Crested Butte Regional Airport (GUC) on United in the summer months from Denver (DEN) and Houston (IAH). The Gunnison airport is located just 29 miles south of Crested Butte. Montrose Regional Airport (MTJ) is another convenient way to get to Crested Butte. Only 90 miles away, Montrose has direct summer flights from Denver, Houston and Dallas.
